Reshaping the 12th grade requires that schools understand and appreciate seniors’ unique developmental issues and characteristics.

Six key premises about these emerging adults can inform educators as they endeavor to create the educational experience of the senior year. 

Seniors Are

  • In a transition mode that necessitates preparation for the next stage of life.
  • Capable people and an untapped resource, ready to make significant contributions to their school and community beyond.
  • In need of an infusion of new and relevant experiences beyond the classroom  walls.
  • Ready to apply what they have learned to the real world.
  • Eager to have a voice in what they learn
  • In need of interaction with mentoring adults
